About the Role
The Quality Assurance Lead at Degas is responsible for driving the implementation and continual improvement of quality assurance programs and systems to ensure compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations. This role is critical in maintaining the highest levels of food safety, product quality, and operational excellence across our maize production and supply chain activities. Reporting to the Head of Operations, the QA Lead will work cross-functionally to promote a quality-first culture and ensure that all maize products meet Degas’ stringent quality and sustainability standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor quality assurance policies and procedures aligned with Degas’ global standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., Ghana FDA, HACCP, ISO, FSSC 22000, and GMP).

  • Ensure all maize products meet quality and food safety standards prior to dispatch.

  • Conduct internal audits and coordinate external audits (certification, customer, and regulatory).

  • Lead investigations for product recalls, deviations, and non-conformities, and implement corrective/preventive actions.

  • Establish and maintain quality control measures from raw material intake to finished goods.

  • Analyze quality trends and data to identify continuous improvement opportunities.

  • Support strategic improvements in warehouse operations, efficiency, and long-term quality goals.

  • Oversee all quality testing processes, including chemical, microbiological, and sensory testing.

  • Respond to quality-related customer complaints and drive resolution through root cause analysis.

  • Collaborate with commercial teams to align customer expectations with product quality.

  • Mentor and develop QA and Warehouse team members, fostering a high-performance culture.

  • Deliver training on food safety, compliance, and quality management systems.

  • Champion a culture of quality throughout the organization.

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation on audits, test results, and regulatory compliance.

  • Report on quality performance to senior leadership and global quality stakeholders.

You Could Be a Great Fit for This Role If You Have

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Quality Management, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field.

  • Master’s degree is a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in Quality Assurance and/or Quality Management in the food or maize industry.

Certifications:

  • HACCP and FSSC 22000 (required).

  • ISO 9001, GMP, or similar certifications (strongly preferred).

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of food safety and quality management systems.

  • Proficiency in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.

  • Experience in maize processing and agricultural product standards.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent leadership and team-building capabilities.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent organizational abilities.

  • Capacity to thrive in fast-paced and high-growth environments.

Key Requirement

  • HACCP and FSSC 22000 certifications are required.

  • Additional certifications such as ISO 9001, GMP, or other relevant quality and food safety credentials are considered a strong asset.

Location
This position is based in Accra, Ghana, with regular travel to Degas' regional offices, field sites in Northern Ghana, and partner facilities.
